Distance learning degree programs are designed for students who wish to pursue study toward a degree through Syracuse University but are unable, for whatever reason, to take courses in the traditional classroom format. At the undergraduate level, two programs are offered: the associate in arts (A.A.) and the bachelor of arts (B.A.) in liberal studies.
The program consists of short on-campus residencies (six days) plus self-paced study that students complete at home, conferring often with their professors by mail, fax, telephone, or e-mail. The campus residence periods are required.
The A.A. and B.A. programs entail three semesters of coursework a year, each approximately 17 weeks long. There is a one-week residency requirement for each semester in which students wish to take courses, but students do not have to attend in consecutive semesters. Students may also enroll in online or MAYmester courses to accelerate their progress. Faculty are full-time SU professors.
